Our Story
Smart organic & fair trade menswear for work, pub & play.
Arthur & Henry was founded on the belief that all great men need a good shirt, and that means good in every sense - good design, good for the environment, and good for the people who’ve had a hand in making them, from farmer to factory worker, weaver to dyer.
Our designs are inspired by our granddad Henry, and our great-grandfather Arthur - two gentlemen that lived in an age where a shirt was both an everyday item of clothing and something special to be looked after. Holes darned, cuffs reversed and collars starched.
Arthur & Henry shirts are designed to be lived in and to last. And we ensure that they are made to the highest sustainable and ethical standards - because if you’re a great man, you need a good shirt.
Who we are
Clare Lissaman - Cofounder (left)
Clare has worked as a consultant in ethical trade and sustainability in the fashion industry for over 15 years. Frustrated at seeing the number of men at sustainability and fair trade conferences who didn’t own a quality, ethically made shirt, she took it upon herself to create one - with the help of some comrades of course...
Mark Lissaman - Cofounder (right)
Mark is Clare’s younger brother and as well as sharing a passion for the environment with Clare, is also a big wearer of shirts owing to his corporate tech career. This made him a valuable guinea pig in the early days of shirt development, and he continues to assume the younger brother role of being bossed around by Clare.
Sreeranga Rajan - Cofounder (centre)
Think you know a thing or two about shirts? Think again. Sreeranga has a degree in textile engineering and an MBA from the London Business School. Clare and Sreeranga met working on Fairtrade cotton and textiles and joined forces to create Arthur & Henry as a way to combat the negative impact of the fashion industry on people and the environment.
